Jaipur Metro Phase-2 Approved: ₹13,038 Crore Project to Transform City Connectivity

Jaipur: In a major boost to urban infrastructure and public transportation, the Union Cabinet has approved the Jaipur Metro Phase-2 project, a large-scale expansion of the city’s metro network with an estimated investment of ₹13,038 crore. The project aims to significantly improve connectivity across Jaipur and reduce traffic congestion in the rapidly growing capital of Rajasthan.

The new metro corridor will stretch 41 kilometres from Prahladpura in the south to Todi Mod in the north, creating a major north–south transit route across the city. Once completed, the line will feature 36 stations, of which 34 will be elevated and two underground, connecting several key residential, commercial and industrial zones.

Major Boost for Jaipur’s Urban Mobility

The Phase-2 expansion is expected to transform public transportation in Jaipur by providing seamless access to major areas such as Sitapura Industrial Area, Jaipur International Airport, SMS Hospital, Tonk Road, Vidhyadhar Nagar and VKI industrial area.

Officials believe the new corridor will help reduce travel time, cut down road congestion and encourage more residents to shift to eco-friendly public transport. The project is also expected to support Jaipur’s growing population and rising commuter demand.

The metro expansion will be implemented by Rajasthan Metro Rail Corporation Limited (RMRCL) under a 50:50 joint venture between the central and state governments.

Route and Key Stations

The proposed metro corridor will connect several important areas across Jaipur. Some of the major stations planned along the route include:

  • Prahladpura
  • Sitapura
  • JECC
  • Jaipur Airport
  • Durgapura
  • Gandhi Nagar Railway Station
  • Rambagh Circle
  • Narayan Singh Circle
  • SMS Hospital

  • Chomu Puliya
  • Vidhyadhar Nagar
  • Harmada
  • Todi Mod

The new corridor will also integrate with the existing Phase-1 metro line at Khasa Kothi, ensuring seamless travel across different parts of the city.

Construction Timeline

The project is expected to be completed in about five to six years, with authorities targeting completion around September 2031. Construction may be divided into multiple packages so that different contractors can work simultaneously to accelerate progress.

Impact on Jaipur’s Development

Experts believe the metro expansion will play a crucial role in shaping Jaipur’s future urban development. By linking major industrial areas, residential zones, hospitals and the airport, the project is expected to boost economic activity, tourism and real estate growth in several parts of the city.

In addition to improving connectivity, the metro system is expected to contribute to sustainable urban mobility, helping reduce pollution levels and dependence on private vehicles.

Jaipur Metro Network Today

Jaipur Metro currently operates on the Pink Line corridor between Mansarovar and Badi Chaupar, covering around 11.6 km with multiple stations. The upcoming Phase-2 project will significantly expand the network and create a more comprehensive rapid transit system for the city.

With the approval of Phase-2, Jaipur is set to witness one of its biggest infrastructure upgrades, bringing the city closer to becoming a modern, well-connected urban hub.
